Decatur Animal Services

Our goals are to provide good public service, to promote humane treatment of animals, respect for life, and above all, to promote the human/animal bond. Please be aware that this page is maintained by shelter volunteers only.

Adoption fees for dogs are $110; cats $95; rabbits $85. If they are already sterilized when we get them, then they may be available at a reduced fee, depending on what services we have to provide them.

Animal Adoption:
To adopt an animal from the shelter, a city-approved adoption application (see link below) must be completed and signed. It may be faxed to 256-341-4794, emailed to khallman@decatur-al.gov or brought in with you. Failure to agree to and comply with the terms of the adoption agreement shall be grounds for disqualification to adopt an animal. Animal Services has the right to select the best possible placement for any animal and to deny a request to adopt an animal if not convinced the adopter can provide a suitable home or care for the animal.

There is a 10-day grace period when an animal is adopted in which he/she may be returned for a refund. After that, if the pet has to be returned or he/she becomes sick, please return all paperwork and a veterinary diagnosis, and the adoption fee can be applied towards another pet. Adopters must be 19 years of age with picture identification.
